FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Ole Miss couldn't capitalize on five Arkansas errors, however, the Razorbacks scored three runs in the seventh inning on the Rebels' lone error of the night for a 3-2 win Friday night in the first of a three-game Southeastern Conference series at Baum Stadium.

Ole Miss dropped to 24-9-1 overall and 9-4 in the SEC with loss, and is now tied with LSU and Tennessee for first-place overall in the SEC after the Tigers defeated South Carolina, 5-3, and the Volunteers edged Mississippi State 9-8.

The loss was also the Rebels' seventh straight to Arkansas in Fayetteville dating back to 1997.

After the Rebels left the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Ryan Fox reached on a two-base error by Matt Mossberg to start the bottom half of the inning. After Ole Miss starter Pete Montrenes retired the next two batters, that would have ended the inning, Jeff Hoefler walked and Brett Hagedorn singled to score Fox and cut the Ole Miss lead to 2-1.

Brian Kirby then followed with a double down the right field line to score Hoefler and Hagedorn to put the Razorbacks up 3-2.

Junior right-hander Gary Hogan, Jr., (1-2) pitched seven complete innings to earn his first win of the season. He held the Rebels to two runs on two hits and walked three, while striking out five.

Junior right-hander Scott Woods pitched the final two innings, allowing one hit, to earn his second save of the season.

Montrenes (7-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, all unearned, on six hits and a season-high three walks. He also fanned six.

Lance Jones went 2-for-4 to record two of Ole Miss' three hits and extend his hitting streak to a career-best eight games. Sophomore Chad Sterbens went 0-for-3 to snap his hitting streak at a career-best 10 games.

Michael Conner went 2-for-4 for Arkansas as the Razorbacks out-hit the Rebels 6-3.

Ole Miss took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a run scoring ground out by Burney Hutchinson and a RBI single by Jones.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
