Ole Miss will conclude its season-long seven-game road trip this week with a non-conference game at in-state rival Southern Miss on Wednesday, and then a three-game SEC series with co-SEC leader LSU, beginning Friday at 7 p.m. in Baton Rouge, La.
The Rebels and Tigers are tied for the the overall SEC lead and for first place in the SEC Western Division with 10-5 conference marks.
Ole Miss' 25-10-1 start overall is its best 36-game start since 1995 when the Rebels were 27-9.
This weekend's series at LSU will mark be the first between the two schools with former Tiger player and assistant coach Mike Bianco as the head coach of the Rebels. Bianco played for LSU head coach Skip Bertman in 1988and 1989 and later served as an assistant for Bertman from 1993-1997, where he was a part of three LSU national championship teams. Prior to taking the Ole Miss job, Bianco was the head coach at McNeese State for three seasons from 1998-2000. He was 2-3 against the Tigers while at McNeese State, winning both meetings last year, 9-8 on Feb. 22 in Baton Rouge, and 4-3 on May 2 in Lake Charles. Both games were 11-inning affairs.
Junior right-hander Pete Montrenes suffered his second loss of the season Friday at Arkansas when a Rebels' lone error of the night opened the door to three unearned runs in a 3-2 defeat. In his two losses this season to Kentucky (3/9) and Arkansas, Montrenes has allowed nine runs with only one earned.
This weekend's series loss to Arkansas snapped Ole Miss' SEC series win streak at three.
Ole Miss had its two longest hitting streaks of the season snapped this weekend at Arkansas. Sophomore Chad Sterbens had his streak snapped a career-best 10 games on Friday, and senior 3B Lance Jones had his career-long streak stopped a nine games on Sunday. Sterbens batted .450 (18x40) during his 10-game streak, and Jones went 14x38 (.368) during his nine-game run.
Junior RHP/OF Glen Morris went 2x4 with a HR, had four RBI and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings to record the save in Saturday's 11-6 win over Arkansas.
Senior C Carl Lafferty was 4x4 with a HR, two RBI and a career-high four runs scored in Saturday's win over the Razorbacks. The four-hit game was the first of his career.
