COLUMBIA, S.C. - Ole Miss seniors Savante' Stringfellow and Brandy Barnett finished second in the long jump and high jump respectively for Ole Miss at the 2001 SEC Track and Field Championships.

In the day's most exciting competition, Stringfellow finished second to LSU's Walter Davis, a fellow 2000 Olympian. Stringfellow jumped 26-6.5 on his fifth jump of the competition, but was snubbed by Davis who leaped 26-9.25 on his sixth and final jump.

"It was a great competition," said Stringfellow. "I want to congratulate Walter. He is a great competitor and he just had a little more in him today."

Barnett tied for second place in the women's high jump by clearing 5-8.75. Barnett tied with Dee Dee Brown of Arkansas and both were behind Latifah Long of Georgia, who won with a height of 5-10.5.

"I really wanted to get 5-10.5 or higher," said Barnett. "I am happy with my finish though, it is an honor to place at a meet like this."

The remainder of the Saturday's field events were postponed until Sunday, while the running events were moved back to the late evening due to severe weather. The finals of the SEC Championships will be run on Sunday, starting at 5 p.m.
