EUGENE, Ore. - Ole Miss senior Teneeshia Jones was named the South Region Female Athlete of the Year by the United States Track Coaches Association earlier this week. The Shannon, Miss., native was honored at a banquet at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Tuesday in Eugene, Ore.
"Teneeshia is the first person from Ole Miss to be honored in such a way," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "Once again she is a history maker. We are very proud of her."
Jones, the most decorated female track athlete in Ole Miss history, has broken eight individual school records and was a member of two school-record setting relay teams during the 2001 season. She set five indoor records (50 meters, 50-meter hurdles, 60 meters, 60-meter hurdles and 200 meters) and five outdoor records (100 meters, 100-meter hurdles, 200 meters, 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay). She is a seven-time All-American and was the 2001 SEC Champion in the 100-meter hurdles.
Jones is currently in Eugene competing in her third-straight NCAA Outdoor Championships. She will run in the 100-meter dash preliminaries Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
