Tisha Parker Places 12th, Teneeshia Jones Advances At USA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Ole Miss senior Tisha Parker finished 12th in the women's long jump on Thursday at the GMC Envoy USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon. Parker, a Houston, Texas, native, had her best jump of the competition with her opening leap of 19-2.25. Jenny Adams of Santa Monica Track Club was the competition winner with a leap of 22-0.25.

Lady Rebel senior Teneeshia Jones advanced to the semi-finals of the women's 100-meter dash by clocking in at 11.49 in her first round heat. Jones will compete in the 100 meter semifinals on Friday at 7:20 p.m. She will also compete in the women's 200-meter dash, with preliminaries for that race beginning Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Savante' Stringfellow will compete in Friday's men's long jump competition at 7:40 p.m. Stringfellow, a three-time NCAA champion in the long jump, will go against the world record-holder, Mike Powell, in search of his first USA track and field championship.

The Championships serve as the selection event for Team USA at the 2001 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, August 3-12 in Edmonton, Canada. The top three finishers in each event who have met IAAF qualifying standards will make the U.S. squad for Edmonton.
