Edmonton - Former Ole Miss track star Savante' Stringfellow finished second in the long jump at the 2001 Track and Field World Championships by leaping 8.24 meters on Saturday. Stringfellow, the reigning NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Champion, only recorded two jumps during the final as he fouled on his first two attempts and his last two attempts.

"My second jump was a big jump," said Stringfellow, who took first place at the US Championships in June. "My last jump was a big, big jump. I am pretty sure I had three fouls over 8.24 meters, but they were fouls so they do not count."

Stringfellow was the leader after Thursday's preliminary round of jumps, but Ivan Pedroso of Cuba took over the top spot in the finals with his winning leap of 8.40 meters.

"I got a medal," said Stringfellow. "It wasn't a gold medal and it wasn't the bronze. It was the one in between. I can't ask for anything else, I am extremely happy with second."
