Ole Miss Cross Country Teams Fare Well At Tulane Invitational

NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Ole Miss men's cross country team finished fourth and the women's team finished sixth at the 2001 Tulane Invitational at Levee Oaks Park Friday.
The host school, Tulane, featured both of the individual winners. Sophomore Eva Lustigova (Liberec, Czech Republic) covered the two-mile course in 11:42.20 for the women in leading her team to a first place finish, while senior Solomon Kandie (Nairobi, Kenya) completed the three-mile men's race in 14:33.30 in leading the Green Wave men to a second place finish.
In the men's race, Alabama tallied 32 points for first place, followed by the Wave with 45 points and LSU with 58. Ole Miss (105) and Xavier (165) rounded out the top five, followed by Jackson State (167), New Orleans (189) and Southeastern (194). Loyola and Mobile did not have five finishers.
Leading the way for the Rebels for the second consecutive week was senior Hank Campbell who finished the race in 12th place (15:41.00). Campbell was followed by junior Matt Carter (18th, 15:58.60) and senior Chad Dixon (20th, 16:02.30). Senior Marcus Christofferson finished 29th (16:42.80) and freshman Keller Glass rounded out the Ole Miss scoring with his 31st-place finish (16:55.60).
The Tulane women won the event with 69 points, followed by Alabama (74 points), LSU (78), Southern Miss (80). The field was rounded out by New Orleans (137), Ole Miss (162), Jackson State (188), Xavier (197), Mobile (200), Loyola (228) and Southeastern (271).
Ole Miss was led by freshman Erin Jordan's 12th-place finish (12:40.80). Sophomore Demetria Burks finished 28th (13:29.40), while senior Chika Chuku crossed the finish line in 32nd place (13:40.30). Rounding out the race for the Lady Rebels were freshmen Elizabeth Brorby (38th, 13:51.40) and Lesley Cross (53rd, 14:33.00).
