Lady Rebels Suffer Tough Loss At Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Ole Miss (9-6, 1-1) fell behind quickly, letting Mississippi State (11-4, 2-1) jump out to a 15-0 lead and never fully recovered. The Lady Rebels shot a horrid 28.2 percent from the field, including making just 6-of-25 three-point shots on their way to the 82-57 loss.

"We just did not have it tonight," said Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy. "We played extremely poor in the first five minutes of the game and could never quite get into a good rhythm after that. I was hoping we would have some confidence after our win over Arkansas, but we were clearly not the same team tonight that we were in our last game."

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 15-0 lead at the 15:35 mark of the first half behind nine points from freshman Tan White and six points from junior LaToya Thomas. The Lady Rebels finally got on the board a minute later on a three-point basket by freshman Carletta Brown. Ole Miss would cut into the MSU deficit in the first half, trimming it to seven on two occasions, but were forced to settle for a 12-point halftime deficit.

The Lady Rebels came out with a second wind to start the second half, cutting the MSU lead to six at the 16:54 mark of the second period, but then let the Lady Bulldogs go on a 19-3 scoring run to put the game out of reach.

Ole Miss was led in scoring by senior Sherika Wright and freshman Amber Watts with nine points a piece. Freshman Ally Kelly, senior Saundra Jackson and Brown each added eight points and junior Leah Henley chipped in a season-high seven points. Senior TaShondrea Moton led the Lady Rebels with nine rebounds and Watts grabbed six.

The Lady Rebels made just 20-of-71 shots from the field and 11-of-22 shots from the foul line. The collected 10 assists and eight steals.

Mississippi State made 32-of-60 shots from the field, good for 53.3 percent. The Lady Bulldogs drilled 8-of-16 from the three-point line and 10-of-15 from the foul line. MSU out-rebounded Ole Miss 47-41. White finished the game with 25 points, 16 rebounds seven assists and three steals and Thomas finished with 20 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.

Ole Miss will return to action Sunday, Jan. 13, when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Vanderbilt. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum. The game will be aired live on Comcast Television.
