Ole Miss Tracksters Travel To Nebraska For Adidas Invitational

OXFORD, Miss. - ,The Ole Miss men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Lincoln, Neb., this weekend for the adidas Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska. Some of the nation's top track and field programs will be in attendance Friday and Saturday in the Bob Devaney Sports Center. The meet will feature Barton County, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois (women), Kansas State, LSU, Nebraska and Wichita State in addition to Ole Miss.

Friday's distance events, which begin at 5 p.m., are open to competitors. Field events will also begin at 5 p.m. on Friday. Saturday's action will start at noon, with running events beginning at 12:10 p.m.

The Ole Miss men finished 10th at the 2001 NCAA indoor championships and are looking to improve in 2002. The Rebels have been led by a strong group of sprinters, including sophomore Kendrick Triggs, who owns the nation's top time in the 200 meters (20.68) this season and junior All-American James Shelton, who posted a season's best time of 6.70 in the 60 meters at last weekend's Arkansas State Invitational.

Freshman Antwon Hicks ranks 10th in the NCAA in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.86 and junior Stacy Andrews is ranks 10th in the weight throw with his toss of 66-0.5. Andrews also is tops in the SEC. The Rebels are currently ranked 13th in the latest Team Power rankings.

The Lady Rebels are currently ranked 25th in the latest Team Power rankings behind junior Willisa Heintz. Heintz, a Dallas, Texas, native, is currently ranked ninth in the NCAA in the 200 meters with her time of 23.97.
