Ole Miss Tracksters Open The Season At Maryland

OXFORD, Miss. - ,The Ole Miss men's and women's indoor track and field teams will travel to Landover, Md., to open the 2002 season on Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland.
Schools from the ACC, SEC, Big East and MEAC will form a well-balanced field for the Rebels and Lady Rebels to open the season. Among the schools competing will be Alabama- Birmingham, Clemson, Coppin State, Delaware, Duke, Georgetown, Hampton, Howard, Maryland, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, Norfolk, North Carolina A&T, Pittsburgh, Robert Morris, South Carolina State, Virginia and Western Maryland.
Ole Miss returns 20 letterwinners on the men's team and eight on the women's side. The Rebels will be led by sprinters James Shelton and Kendrick Triggs and Stacy Andrews and Jimmy Radford in the field events. Shelton earned All-America honors at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60 meters, finishing second.
The Lady Rebels will be led by seniors Candice Cattron, Chika Chuku and Monique McClure and junior Willisa Heintz. Cattron and Chuku have both scored points at last season's Indoor Southeastern Conference Championships on the track, while McClure scored in the shot put. Heintz, who transferred to Ole Miss from Middle Tennessee this past fall, was one of the leading sprinters in the Sun Belt Conference the past two years.
