Ole Miss Cross Country Teams Compete At Auburn Invitational

AUBURN, Ala. - The Ole Miss women competed at the Auburn University Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Rebels finished 20th as a team, while the Rebels finished 24th. The Invitational was held at the Indian Pines Golf Course. The Virginia Tech women and Southern Methodist men were victorious, each capturing first place in their respective team scoring.

For the third time this season, the Lady Rebels were led by freshman Rachel Ellison who placed 81st with a 5K time of 18:50. Once again, the Rebels were paced by junior Caleb Hammons, whose team best time of 26:27 earned him 116th in the men's 8K.

Dalibor Balgac of SMU placed first overall in the men's race with a time of 23:47. The women's event was won by Katie Griffin of Georgia Tech, who completed the 5K course in 16:53.

Trailing Ellison at 98th and 104th were teammates Amanda Marcak (19:08) and Erin Jordan (19:18). Trista McKee (20:59) and Mary Galtney (22:36) rounded out the top five runners for the Lady Rebels.

Freshman Jimmy Lohmar finished 135th overall and second on the men's team with a time of 26:55. Following Hammons and Lohmar, the Rebels' top-five runners consisted of Patrick Journy (27:53), Bryce McKay (29:25) and Matt Merritt (29:39).

The Lady Rebels and Rebels will compete next at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Gainesville, Fla., on Nov.4.
