Gard Reaches Main Draw At ITA Futures

ARLINGTON, Texas - In a battle between Rebel teammates, Ole Miss sophomore Catalin Gard defeated junior Paul Ciorascu, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, to advance to the ITA Futures main draw in Arlington, Texas.
Gard would be the only Rebel netter to advance past the qualifying round as senior Alex Hartman fell to the former University of Georgia All-American, Chad Carlson, 6-0, 6-2.
Gard will be Ole Miss' lone representative in the 32-player main draw of the pro event. His playing status, just as it was in the qualifying round, will be as an amateur. After four days of competition at the Arlington Tennis Center, Rebel assistant coach Jeff Clark felt Ole Miss was well represented.
"For us to have three guys in the qualifier round of 16 is tremendous," said Clark. "It was unfortunate Catalin (Gard) and Paul (Ciorascu) had to play eachother, but they went out and showed great effort."
