Series: This will be the first meeting between Ole Miss and Morgan State.

Coaches: Ole Miss head coach Ron Aldy is 68-78 in his sixth season with the Lady Rebels and owns a 147-118 overall record in his nine years as a head coach. Morgan State head coach Angleyne Brown is in her first season with the Bears. She has an overall record of 151-99.

GAME DAY HEADLINES
* Ole Miss and Morgan State will meet for the first time when the two teams play at the UIC Thanksgiving Tournament. Morgan State is the first team from the state of Maryland to grace the Lady Rebel schedule and also the first team from the MEAC.
* Ole Miss completed the exhibition season 1-1 after defeating West Alabama, 94-57, and falling to TJ Sokol, 68-79. The Lady Rebels were 1-1 in exhibition games last season. They fell to the Basketball Travelers from Australia, 79-86, and defeated the Houston Jaguars, 83-53.
* Sophomore Amber Watts recorded a career-high 13 rebounds versus Southern and junior Tenisha Gist scored a career-high 14 points to lead Ole Miss versus the Jaguars.
* Ole Miss is 3-2 in road-openers under Ron Aldy. This will mark Aldy's first meeting versus Morgan State as a head coach.

LADY REBEL GAME NOTES

LAST TIME OUT: The Lady Rebels opened the season with a 66-53 victory over Southern University on Monday, Nov. 25. Ole Miss was led by juniors Tywanna Inmon and Tenisha Gist, who scored 14 points a piece. Sophomore Elizabeth Cansdale added 10 points and sophomore Amber Watts grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds. Carletta Brown led Ole Miss with five assists.

ALDY IS IN SIXTH YEAR: Ron Aldy is in his sixth year (67-78) at the helm of the Lady Rebel basketball program. After having achieved success on every level as either a head coach or an assistant coach, Aldy is using his knowledge and love of the game to bring the storied Ole Miss basketball program back to national prominence. He has dedicated himself to making Ole Miss a winner on and off the court. Aldy has guided the Lady Rebels to postseason play in two of his five seasons in Oxford. He led Ole Miss to a 17-13 overall record and a trip to the WNIT in 2000-01. Off the court, the Lady Rebels have made tremendous strides academically and in the community, as well. Ole Miss has placed six players on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in three of the last four seasons. Since Aldy came to Oxford, all of his outgoing seniors have received their bachelor's degrees with the exception of three, one of whom will graduate in December and the other two in May. Aldy and his staff have seen to it that the Lady Rebels get involved in the Oxford community. The Ole Miss players have helped build a community playground, visited the elderly and participated in many other activities in the area.

SCOUTING MORGAN STATE: The Bears are 0-3 entering the UIC Thanksgiving Tournament. Morgan State will take on host Illinois-Chicago on Friday afternoon before facing Ole Miss on Saturday. Morgan State has fallen to Liberty (35-90), Fordham (35-89) and Maryland-Baltimore County (34-57). The Bears finished the 2001-02 season with a 1-25 overall record, including a 1-17 finish in MEAC play. Morgan State returns one starter and six letterwinners from last year's team.

COMMON OPPONENTS: Morgan State and Ole Miss share only one common opponents during the 2002-03 season, as both teams will play Illinois-Chicago at the UIC Thanksgiving Tournament.

OLE MISS-MORGAN STATE TIES: Ole Miss does not field any players from the state of Maryland and Morgan State does not have any players from the Magnolia state on its roster.

OLE MISS VS. MARYLAND SCHOOLS: Ole Miss is 0-0 versus schools from the state of Maryland.

OLE MISS VS. THE MEAC: Morgan State will also be the first team from the MEAC the Lady Rebels play.

OLE MISS IN ROAD OPENERS: Ole Miss has an compiled an impressive 18-10 record in road openers. Ole Miss dropped a 77-55 decision at Tennessee Tech last season. The Lady Rebels are 3-2 in road openers under head coach Ron Aldy.

GIST HAS CAREER DAY AGAINST SOUTHERN: Junior Tenisha Gist posted several career highs in the Lady Rebels' season opening 66-53 win over Southern University. Gist's set new marks in points (14), field goal attempts (9), three-point field goal attempts (4) and minutes played (30). She also tied career highs in assists (4) and rebounds (7).

WATSON EARNS FIRST START: Junior college transfer Tia Watson started things off right. Watson earned her first career start in her first career game at Ole Miss. The 5-11 forward recorded three points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal in 16 minutes of action. Watson was impressive in exhibition action for the Lady Rebels as she scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds versus TJ Sokol and had 14 points and eight boards against West Alabama.

CROSSING OVER: Junior forward Erin Newsom recently joined the Ole Miss women's basketball team after completing her four-year Lady Rebel career in volleyball. Newsom, a 6-2 Argyle, Texas native, was a standout basketball player at Northwest High School before deciding to play volleyball in college. She was the starting middle blocker on the Lady Rebel volleyball team and was a team captain in 2002. She will have two seasons of basketball eligibility. Newsom is one of two two-sport athletes on the volleyball team as junior setter Jade Polonich also plays golf at Ole Miss.

DOUBLING UP: Sophomore center Amber Watts tallied her third career double-digit rebounding game in the season-opener against Southern. Watts grabbed a career-high 13 caroms in the win over the Jaguars. The 13 rebounds marks the third time in Watts' young career that she posted 10 or more rebounds as she tallied 12 last year versus Fairleigh Dickinson and 10 against Temple.

SEVEN NEWCOMERS JOIN LADY REBELS IN 2002-03: New faces will abound as the 2002-03 Lady Rebel basketball season gets underway. The new players have arrived on the roster in a variety of ways. In the traditional mold, making their collegiate debuts will be freshman Ellen Buchanan and Ashley Johnson. In the not so traditional route, fellow freshman Marie Deparrois arrives in Oxford via Bourges, France. Deparrois is Ole Miss' first women's basketball international player. Junior college transfers Genice Terry and Tia Watson will joining the team as juniors. Two other newcomers will be listed as juniors in Candice Holley, a transfer from the University of Cincinnati, and Erin Newsom, an Ole Miss volleyball player playing her first season of collegiate basketball. Per NCAA transfer rules, Holley isn't eligible to suit up for game action until the completion of the fall semester on Dec. 13.

SWEET NOVEMBER: The Lady Rebels have compiled a 64-18 all time record in the month of November, including a 4-1 record last season. Ole Miss will play just two games in the month of November during the 2002-03 season. They defeated Southern, 66-53, on Nov. 25 and play Morgan State in the first round of the Illinois-Chicago Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 30.

600 ON THE HORIZON: With 585 all time wins in the history of the Lady Rebel program, Ole Miss will be searching for its 600th victory during the 2002-03 season. The Lady Rebels have put together 585 wins to just 271 losses in the 29 seasons in Oxford.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION: Ole Miss will appear on television three times this year. FoxSportsNetSouth will televise the Lady Rebels' game against Auburn on Feb. 2 in Tad Smith Coliseum and Comcast Sports Southeast will televise the Lady Rebels' game at Tennessee on Feb. 6. The Sunshine Network will air Ole Miss' game at Florida on Feb. 27.

TRAVELING WITH THE LADY REBELS: Ole Miss will log plenty of miles during the 2002-03 season. The Lady Rebels will travel as north to Chicago for the Illinois-Chicago Thanksgiving Tournament. Sunshine awaits Ole Miss at both the Sun Splash Shootout in Nassau, Bahamas and the Sun-N-Fun Classic in Miami.

TIP-INS: Head Coach Ron Aldy celebrated his birthday on November 9. Senior Leah Henley got engaged this fall to Rebel football player Rick Razzano. Razzano popped the question during the Rebel Walk through the Grove prior to the Sept. 14 Memphis game. Henley joins fellow Lady Rebel Tywanna Inmon as future brides. Inmon is engaged to Ben Virges.

IMPRESSIVE OUTSIDE THE SEC: The Lady Rebels have compiled an impressive record outside the Southeastern Conference in regular-season play. Ole Miss owns a 142-34 record (.806 winning percentage) versus non-conference opponents since 1990. The Lady Rebels' best non-conference record during that time came during the 1991-92 SEC Championship season, as they compiled a 15-1 mark versus non-conference foes. The Lady Rebels' were nearly as good last season as they went 12-1 against non-SEC challengers. The Lady Rebels have an overall 47-7 record (.870 winning percentage) versus the non-conference opponents on this year's slate.

OLE MISS MAKING THE GRADE: The Lady Rebels placed five players on the 2002 SEC Academic Honor Roll. In each of Ron Aldy's five years, Ole Miss has ranked in the top three in the SEC with the number of players on the honor roll. Shayla Day, Von Kirk, TaShondrea Moton, Stephanie Murphy and Becky Myatt were Ole Miss' 2002 honorees.
