Ole Miss Tracksters Perform Well At USA Indoor Track And Field Championships

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Ole Miss was well represented at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships as Junior Willisa Heintz and sophomore Kendrick Triggs both had solid showings in the 200 meters at the on Saturday. Heintz placed second with a season's best time of 23.75. Triggs placed third by running 21.19 in the finals.
Junior James Shelton also ran well on Saturday, finishing eighth in the 60 meters by clocking in at 6.63 in the finals. Shelton qualified for Saturday's final by running a season's best 6.62 in the preliminaries on Friday.
Junior Stacy Andrews finished eighth in the weight throw. Andrews' best mark in the competition was 63-1.5. Freshman Antwon Hicks competed in the 60-meter hurdles. Hicks narrowly missed qualifying for finals with his 7.92 clocking in the preliminaries.
On Friday, freshman Shantel Glass competed at the LSU Last Ditch Meet. Glass won the long jump competition with his leap of 25-1.5. Glass improved his NCAA provisional qualifying mark at the meet and is currently ranked 12th in the NCAA.
Ole Miss will return to the track when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the 2002 NCAA Indoor Championships next weekend. The Rebels have five qualifiers in Shelton (60 meters), Triggs (200 meters), Andrews (weight throws), Glass (long jump) and Hicks (60-meter hurdles). The Lady Rebels have just one qualifier in Heintz (200 meters).
