KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The 28th-ranked Ole Miss women's tennis team could not carry over its great play from Friday into Sunday's match against No. 12 Tennessee, falling 6-1 to the Lady Vols. With the loss, the Lady Rebels dropped to 8-9 overall and 1-7 in the SEC, while Tennessee improved to 16-5, 7-1.
Tennessee took the early lead by winning the doubles point. They won 8-3 at the No. 1 spot, and then Ole Miss' Karem Harboe and Florencia Basile defeated Kim Gates and Alison Ojeda 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. Tennessee clinched the point with an 8-3 win on court three.
The Lady Vols were too strong in singles, winning four of the six matches in straight sets. Mira Radu, ranked 13th in the nation, won the first set against ninth-ranked Vilmarie Castellvi, but the lost the second 6-1 and was down 3-0, before retiring. Other than the one win, that was as close as any match went for the Lady Rebels.
Harboe went 2-0 on the day and won her second straight match, downing Gates 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. On Friday, she beat 43rd-ranked Anne Nguyen of Georgia in straight sets.
