No. 9 Ole Miss Extends Win Streak To Five

OXFORD, Miss. - No. 9 Ole Miss won its fifth straight with an 11-8 victory over Indiana State in the opener of a three-game series, Friday night at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The win improved the Rebels to 11-2 to match their best start since 1978. Indiana State dropped to 2-3.
Ole Miss took the lead for good in the third when three three errors by Sycamore shortstop Brad Collins led to four unearned runs and gave Ole Miss a 6-2 lead.
Indiana State scored three runs in the fourth to pull within 6-5 as the Sycamores recorded four straight hits off starter Pete Montrenes to start the inning. Barry Warn hit a two-run bases loaded single to make it 6-4 and Kevin Egli two batters later added a sac fly to score Pierce.
Montrenes (4-0) went five innings to earn the win, allowing five runs, four earned, on nine hits and two walks. He also struck out four.
Indiana State starter Mitch Stetter (0-1) was plagued five Sycamore errors as only three of the nine runs he allowed were earned. He also allowed eight hits and five walks, an struck out two in six innings while suffering the loss.
Junior catcher Charlie Waite went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBIs. The home run was the first of his career, a solo shot in the seventh to make it 10-5.
Josh Christian also hit his first home run of the year with a lead-off shot in the sixth.
Tommy Jeffers and Ben Vannatter both homered for Indiana State.
Vannatter finished the night 3-for-4.
Both teams recorded 12 hits each.
Game two of the series is set for Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
