OXFORD, Miss. - Drew Rogers went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and right-hander J.R. Pickens pitched six strong innings to lead No. 9 Ole Miss to its sixth straight win with an 11-4 win over Indiana State Saturday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
The Rebels improved to 12-2 on the year with the win to match their best start since the 1968 season.
Rogers doubled to lead-off the second and scored a batter later on Matt Tolbert's single to give Ole Miss a 2-0 lead. He then added a RBI single during a five-run third inning and had another RBI single in a four-run fourth as the Rebels led 11-1 after four innings.
Pickens (3-0) limited Indiana State (2-4) to two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks, while striking out eight to earn the win. He left the game after the sixth holding an 11-2 advantage.
Matt Zaleski (0-1) was charged with the loss as he was tagged for 11 runs, six earned, on 11 hits and two walks, and struck out one.
For the second straight night, defensive miscues hurt the Sycamores. Indiana State committed two of its three errors in the third as all five Rebel runs in the inning were unearned.
Ole Miss was able to overcome five errors of its own.
Nine Ole Miss players recorded at least one hit as the Rebels out-hit the Sycamores 13-6.
The two teams will conclude the three-game series Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The game can be heard locally in Oxford on WTNM Supertalk Mississippi 105.5 FM.
