OXFORD, Miss. - Junior catcher Bobby Huddleston went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs to lead No. 22 (Baseball Weekly/ESPN) Auburn to a 10-3 win over No. 8 (NCBWA) Ole Miss in front of 2,471 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, in the opener of a three-game Southeastern Conference series.

The loss snapped the Rebels' (27-8, 8-5 SEC) winning streak at 12 games. The win streak was Ole Miss' longest since 1964 and was the fourth longest in school history.

Sophomore right-hander Colby Paxton (8-2) pitched a complete game to earn the win. He allowed three runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out four.

Junior right-hander J.R. Pickens suffered the loss, allowing 10 runs, four earned, on 11 hits and one walk, and struck out four in 5 2/3 innings.

Ole Miss drew first blood in the first inning on first baseman Bryce Morrison's RBI single to score Burney Hutchinson.

Auburn (25-11, 7-6 SEC) answered with four runs in the third. Sean Gamble's sac fly to center that scored Chuck Jeroloman tied the game at 1-1. Javon Moran then reached on an error by Morrison, that would have been the third out of the inning, to put runners on first and second. Huddleston then followed with his three-run shot to left center to make it 4-1.

The Tigers added two more runs in the fourth on Jeroloman's two-run home run, and scored four in the sixth, highlighted by Scott Schade's lead-off homer to make it 7-1.

Ole Miss scored two runs in the eighth to make it 10-3 on a run-scoring double by Morrison and an RBI single by Chad Sterbens.

Hutchinson, Morrison and Waite all had two hits each, despite the Tigers out-hitting the Rebels 14-8. Sterbens finished 1-for-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak inside SEC play to 13 games.

The two teams will meet in game two of the series Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field, in a game that will be televised on FOX Sports Net. Junior right-hander Levale Speigner (6-3, 3.88) is scheduled to start for Auburn against Ole Miss' senior right-hander Pete Montrenes (7-2, 3.96).
