TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Brent Boyd went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs, including a grand slam to highlight a seven-run first inning, to lead No. 2 Alabama to a 12-2 win over No. 9 Ole Miss in front of 5,827 Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, and evening this weekend's Southeastern Conference series at a game a piece. Ole Miss won Friday's opener 4-3.

With the win, Alabama improved to 34-6 overall and 13-4 in the SEC, and extending their lead back to two games in the SEC's Western Division over Ole Miss, who dropped to 31-9 overall and 11-6 in the SEC.

After scoring seven runs in the first, Alabama added two more in the second to stake starter Jeffrey Norris (4-0) out to a 9-0 lead. That would be more than enough for Norris, who would scatter eight hits while limiting the Rebels to two runs, one earned, and also walked one in earning the win.

Pete Montrenes (8-3) was chased after 4 1/3 innings, as he was touched for 10 runs on 10 hits and three walks in suffering the loss.

Scott McClanahan was also 3-for-3 with four RBIs as Alabama out-hit Ole Miss 14-8 on the afternoon.

Josh Christian went 2-for-4 at the plate for Ole Miss.

The two teams will meet in the rubber-match of the series Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Freshman right-hander Alan Horne (2-1, 5.27) is scheduled to start for Ole Miss, while Alabama is to counter with senior right-hander Shane Sanders (5-1, 3.86).
