UM Tracksters Compete In California

WALNUT, Calif. - The Ole Miss track and field squads had several dominating performances in two meets in California over the weekend. Freshmen Antwon Hicks and Shantel Glass and sophomore Kendrick Triggs each claimed victories in their respective events.

Triggs led the way at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational with his first-place finish in the 200 meters. Triggs ran 20.74 to win the title. Sophomore James Shelton finished second in the 100 meters with his time of 10.46. Glass claimed a second place mark in the long jump with is leap of 24-3.

Junior Stacy Andrews placed fifth in the discus throw with a toss of 184-7. He also placed eighth in the hammer throw with is new Ole Miss record mark of 189-4.

Freshman Kesia Bass led the Lady Rebels at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational with her fourth place finish in the long jump. Bass leaped a personal best 19-3.25. Junior Willisa Heintz placed fifth in the 200 meters (23.87).

Hicks and Glass led the way for the Rebels at the Mt. SAC Relays. Hicks took first place in the 110-meter hurdles with his time of 13.61. The mark is a personal best for Hicks and qualifies for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Hicks also placed fourth in the high jump by clearing 6-9.75.

Glass also took first place. He won the long jump with his mark of 23-11.75. Fellow Rebel Chris Lawson placed sixth with his distance of 21-11.75. Triggs finished fourth in the 200 meters (20.84), while Shelton finished fourth in the 100 meters (10.50). Andrews placed fourth in the discus throw with is toss of 179-0.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Lawson, Triggs, Taye Biddle and Shelton combined to take first place in both meets.

Heintz placed fourth in the 200 meters at Mt. SAC to lead the Lady Rebels. She clocked in at 23.68. Chika Chuku placed seventh in the 800 meters with her time of 2:10.87 and Bass finished seventh in the long jump with her mark of 18-3.

Ole Miss will return to the track next week when they travel to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays.
