Ole Miss Contained By No. 3 LSU In Softball Finale

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss was held in check once again by the strong pitching of LSU Sunday, dropping the finale of the three-game softball set, 3-0. The third-ranked Tigers (45-8, 23-3 SEC) took all three games of the series to push the Rebels (25-26, 7-20 SEC) below the .500 mark for the first time this year.
Ole Miss received its third quality outing on the mound but was unable to provide the run-support, held scoreless for the series. Lindsay Price (5-8), a junior from Terry, Miss., scattered 10 hits and limited LSU to three runs but suffered the complete-game loss.
Tiger All-American Britni Sneed (25-5) hurled her fifth no-hitter of the season and her second victory of the series. She struck out 26 and allowed only two hits on the weekend.
LSU plated a run in each of the first two innings, off a Tessa Lynam RBI-sacrifice fly and a Megann Steege solo homer. In the sixth inning, Blair Smith singled home the final run of the day for LSU, who swept Saturday's doubleheader, 1-0 and 4-0.
The loss eliminated Ole Miss from SEC Tournament contention.
The Rebels wrap up their 2002 season next weekend at South Carolina. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's finale both begin at noon ET at Beckham Field in Columbia. Ole Miss is only one win shy of tying the school record for single-season victories.
