Baseball Places Seven On SEC Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss baseball placed seven players on the 2002 SEC Academic Honor Roll, announced Monday by SEC Commissioner Roy Kramer.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must meet the following requirements: 1) have a 3.0 grade point average for either the past year (two semesters of three quarters) or a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for their career; 2) be a sophomore or higher in terms of academic classification; and 3) have 24 semester or 36 quarter hours towards a degree.
The 2002 SEC Baseball Academic Honor Roll was based on grades from the 2000-2001 academic calendar, meaning three players that graduated from the 2001 team, were also honored on this year's honor roll.
The honorees from Ole Miss on this year's honor roll were: senior designated hitter Josh Christian, with a 3.58 GPA in Economics; right-handed pitcher Jon Dickens, who graduated last year with a 3.06 GPA in Business; senior infielder Clint Farrar, with a 3.24 GPA in Managerial Finance; right-hander Ronnie Goodwin, who graduated in 2001 with a 3.06 GPA in Exercise Science; senior outfielder Burney Hutchinson, with a 3.24 GPA in Marketing; third baseman Lance Jones, who graduated last year with a 3.33 GPA in Leisure Management; and senior left-handed pitcher Nathan Lyons, with a 3.05 GPA in Accountancy.
"We're certainly very proud of these seven individuals," said Ole Miss Head Baseball Coach Mike Bianco. "One of the major points we strive for in our program is for our players to be successful both on and off the field. All seven of these players are very deserving to be recognized by the Southeastern Conference office."
Ole Miss concluded its regular season this past weekend with a 37-19 record.
