Ole Miss Inks Pearl River Community College Pitcher

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has signed Pearl River Community College right-handed pitcher Chris Thompson to a national letter of intent to play baseball for the Rebels, Head Coach Mike Bianco announced Monday. Thompson will be eligible for the upcoming 2002-2003 academic year.
"We're very excited that Chris has decided to sign with us and attend Ole Miss. He had an outstanding junior college career where he had the opportunity to pitch in the Junior College World Series. Thompson went 11-3 with a 3.27 ERA in 20 appearances this past spring while helping the Wildcats to an appearance in the NJCAA World Series. He also struck out 97 in 107 1/3 innings pitched.
He made one start for Pearl River in the NJCAA World Series and tossed a three-hitter in a 9-1 win over Brookdale (NJ) Community College. Thompson also struck out 10 in the start against Brookdale.

Ole Miss finished this past season with a 37-19 record.
