TUCSON, Ariz. - Ole Miss freshman outfielder Seth Smith was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, Wednesday afternoon by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, while freshman right-hander Alan Horne garnered honorable mention recognition.

Smith, a first team All-Southeastern Conference selection and the SEC's Freshman of the Year, hit .402 in 53 games for the Rebels this season to set a new school freshman record for batting average. He also hit four home runs and drove in an Ole Miss freshman record 52 runs. In addition to batting average and RBIs, Smith also set new Ole Miss freshman records for hits, with 82, and total bases, with 107.

Horne posted a 5-2 record with a 4.97 ERA in 12 starts for Ole Miss this past spring, after missing the first three weeks of the season with back discomfort. He fanned 31 in 54 1/3 innings pitched and limited opponents to a .226 batting-average-against. Horne won five straight decisions during one stretch from March 31-May 5.

"We very proud of both Seth and Alan," said Ole Miss Head Coach Mike Bianco. "They both had terrific years as true freshman playing in the Southeastern Conference. We're also very excited to have two players receive this honor again this season, following Adam Yates and Matt Tolbert from last season."

Yates was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team last season, and Tolbert also earned honorable mention honors.
