OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss football team went through its final two-a-day practices Friday, and for the second straight day, the Rebels did not go in full pads. According to head coach David Cutcliffe, it was matter dictated by weather and injuries.

"We decided to go in shorts today because of the combination of weather and injuries," Cutcliffe said. "We had some heavy rains overnight and this afternoon. The fields are in such wet conditions, and we already have several players with muscle pulls and hamstring problems. The risk of more injuries far out-weighed the need to work in full pads, or else we would have been in full pads.

"This (not going in full pads) worked for us. We needed this time for mental preparation and that was a positive."

Cutcliffe also noted another positive was seeing junior wide receiver Chris Collins and senior linebacker Lanier Goethie getting in some work during both practices after missing Wednesday's scrimmage.

Friday's two practice sessions had the Rebels preparing for Saturday's scrimmage. Ole Miss spent the morning workout continuing to run game situations and learning plays through seven-on-seven drills. The evening session had the squad working on passing routes and coverage and offense and defense team drills. The Rebels also worked on fundamentals and rehearsed plans for Saturday's scrimmage.

Following the scrimmage, Ole Miss will hold "Meet the Rebels Day," presented by Belk Ford/Oxford Toyota and Unicell. The event is set for Saturday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 in The Grove. Ole Miss players and coaches will be available for autographs during that time.
