OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's baseball team took to the field today in the first day of fall practice at Oxford-University Stadium on the campus of the University of Mississippi. It was the first workout since the end of the 2002 season this past spring.

"It feels great to get back out here on the field and start working on things for the upcoming season," said head coach Mike Bianco. "With the way things ended last season, it's been a long summer for us. I think everyone has been anxious to get back out here and see what we can do to work on in preparation for the new season."

Thirty-six players reported to the fall practice which saw the team work on fundamentals of the game and general conditioning. It's a smaller squad than what reported at the beginning of fall practice last season, but that's not something that Bianco feels is a problem.

"We have a smaller squad this season, compared to what we had report at the beginning of last season," Bianco said. "But the main thing is we have a lot of position players returning. We are young and new on the mound, but we have a solid nucleus back."
