Lady Rebels Finish Third, Rebels Sixth At Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Ole Miss women earned third place, while the men finished sixth Friday afternoon in the 15th annual Crimson Classic Cross Country Meet hosted by Alabama at Harry Pritchett Golf Course. The Auburn women and Alabama men were victorious, each capturing first place in their respective team scoring.
For the second time in three meets, the Lady Rebels were led by freshman Rachel Ellison who placed 20th with a 5K time of 20:18. Once again, the Rebels were paced by junior Caleb Hammons, whose team best time of 28:15 earned him 26th in the men's 8K.
Peter Kiprono of Alabama placed first overall in the men's race with a time of 25:13. The women's event was won by Catherine Wanyoike of Auburn, who completed the 5K course in 18:15.
Immediately following Ellison at 21st and 22nd were teammates Beth Brorby (20:19) and Amanda Marcak (20:23). Erin Jordan (21:00) and Stephanie Barber (21:58) rounded out the top five runners for the Lady Rebels.
Freshman Jimmy Lohmar finished 33rd overall and second on the men's team with a time of 28:36. Following Hammons and Lohmar, the Rebels' top-five runners consisted of Patrick Journy (30:06), Bryce McKay (30:16) and Joseph Granthem (30:21).
The Lady Rebels earned a team score of 120, falling to Auburn (15) and Alabama (75). The Rebels finished with a team score of 184, sixth behind Alabama (15), Auburn (47), Alabama-Huntsville (101), Birmingham Southern (106) and Troy State (121).
