OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams will open the 2002 campaign Friday, Sept. 6, at the ULM Invitational hosted by the University of Lousiana-Monroe. The women will start their two-mile race at 6:00 p.m., with the men following with their four-mile race at 6:30 p.m. Both races will be run at Pine Hills Country Club. Slated to compete against the Rebels and Lady Rebels are Centenary, Stephen F. Austin, and the host Louisiana-Monroe.
The Ole Miss cross country teams will field many new faces this season as there are no returning letterwinners on the men's team and only two returning letterwinners on the women's team, in sophomores Elizabeth Brorby and Erin Jordan. With all the newcomers on board head coach Joe Walker is looking forward to seeing them compete.
"I'm looking forward to seeing how well these kids adapt to running at the collegiate level," said Walker. "They're all great athletes but they are young and it takes time to develop."
