OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team hit a season-high .430 on their way to a 3-0 win over UAB Tuesday night at the Gillom Sports Center. With the win, the Lady Rebels improve to 18-3 all-time against the Blazers.

Freshman outside hitter Jaclyn Toohey led the Lady Rebels (4-16) with 13 kills and hit .417 for the match. Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Refenes chipped in nine kills and three blocks, and junior outside hitter Elena Garcia added eight kills, seven digs and four blocks. It was a team effort, as freshman Jillian Ohrman contributed six kills and hit .455, while adding three blocks. Freshman setter Jennifer McGowan tallied 44 assists and eight digs.

UAB (9-12) was led by Martina Shields, who finished with 12 kills and hit .320. The Blazers hit just .144 compared to Ole Miss' .430. The Lady Rebels hit .417 in game one and finished game three with no attacking errors for a .630 hitting percentage.

"I am pleased with our performance tonight," head coach Joe Getzin said. "We've made great strides in the last couple of weeks. The freshman showed again the tremendous potential they have. They are going to be very good in the future. Jennifer did a great job of keeping us in our offensive system, and Karla had a great night. We are excited about the upcoming weekend and are looking for a big crowd Friday for Greek Night. Hopefully the crowd can get Georgia out of their rhythm and help us create a nice home court advantage."

Ole Miss begin game one by taking an 8-5 lead. The Lady Rebels increased their lead to 14-9 as UAB called its first timeout. Ole Miss increased its lead to eight (25-17) forcing the Blazers to use their final timeout. They never got any closer than six as the Lady Rebels closed out the game 30-20.

In game two, Ole Miss jumped out to a commanding 8-2 lead. They built on their lead and went up 17-6. That's when UAB responded to win seven straight points and cut the lead to 17-13. The Lady Rebels led 26-22 when UAB called its first timeout of the game. After Ole Miss won three of the next five points to gain match point (29-24), Blazer head coach Melinda Claiborne used her last timeout to try and rally her team. Ole Miss didn't falter, winning the next point to take the game 30-24 and a 2-0 lead in the match.

There was no letdown in game three, as the Lady Rebels came out firing to take a 6-2 lead, behind the play of Toohey and freshman Clarissa Walker. Toohey had four kills and hit .667 in the game, while Walker also had four kills and hit .571. Ole Miss extended its lead to 10 (18-8) and never looked back, taking the game 30-14 and the match.

The Lady Rebels will look to keep the momentum going Friday when they host Georgia at 6 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center for Greek Night. The most spirited Greek organization in attendance will receive $500 for their charity.
