Volleyball Falls To No. 3 Florida 3-0 Sunday

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss volleyball team ran into one of the top teams in the country Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Sports Center, as No. 3 Florida handed the Lady Rebels a a 3-0 (15-30, 12-30, 13-30) loss in front of 211.

Junior outside hitter Elena Garcia led Ole Miss with nine kills and five digs. The Lady Rebels had eight service errors and 13 reception errors while hitting only .068 for the day.

Florida hit .513 and recorded 11 team blocks to go along with their 13 service aces. Senior outside hitter Aury Cruz paced the Gators with 13 kills on 25 attempts for a .400 clip. She also finished with nine digs to lead the Gators. Senior middle blocker Benavia Jenkins hit .692 with nine kills.

Ole Miss fell behind 12-4 in game one and promptly called timeout. The Gators increased their lead to 10 (20-10) and never looked back, taking the game 30-15. Game two saw Florida jump out to a 17-9 lead when Ole Miss called its first timeout. Up 19-11, the Gators went on a 10-1 run to close out the game 30-12.

In game three Florida stormed out to a 9-1 lead. They led 12-4 when Ole Miss called its first timeout. The Gators increased their advantage to 21-8 and went on to win 30-13 to record their 19th consecutive 3-0 sweep this year.

The Lady Rebels will look to rebound from an 0-2 weekend when they take on the Memphis Tigers Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Elma Roane Field House.
