ARKANSAS POSTGAME NOTES

  • Sophomore Kyle Dickerson earned his first career start at tailback.
  • Senior Brandon Holmes had his first carry since the Auburn game on Oct. 12, 2002.
  • Junior Ahmad Carroll posted his second interception on the season, his other pick occurred in the season opener against Tulsa.
  • Senior Jimarr Gallon registered his first fumble recovery of the season and the third of his career.
  • Freshman Rusty McEntire made his first return to the field for kickoff duties since the North Texas game.
  • Freshman punter Jacob Skinner has had five punts in the past two games that have gone for 50 yards or more. He had one 50-plus yard punt in the first five games of the season.
  • Freshman Cedric Washington earned his first career reception in the fourth quarter.

  • Registered 39 offensive plays tonight to break the Ole Miss career record of 1,275 set by John Fourcade (1978-1981). Manning entered tonight's game five plays shy of Fourcade's career mark and now has a total of 1,309 career plays.
  • With 17 completions tonight, Manning moves into sixth place on the SEC's career list for completions with 723. He entered tonight's game eighth on the SEC's list, and passed Florida's Danny Wuerffel (1993-1996) for seventh place and former Gator Shane Matthews (1989-1992) for sixth place.
  • Manning also surpassed Wuerffel and Kentucky's Tim Couch (1996-1998) to move into seventh place on the SEC's career list for passing attempts. Manning now has 1,197 career passing attempts.
  • The one-yard TD pass to Rick Razzano in the first quarter was the 70th of his career to move into sole possession of seventh place on the SEC's all-time list.
  • Was 8-of-17 passing for 70 yards with one TD and one interception in the first half, marking the first time since last year's Egg Bowl versus Mississippi State that he was held to less than 100 yards in the first half of a game. Manning was 8-of-14 for 91 yards with one with one TD and one interception in the first half during last year's 24-12 win over the Bulldogs.
  • With the one TD pass tonight, has now thrown a TD pass in 28-of-32 career starts.
  • The 145 yards passing was his lowest total as a starter and snapped a string of 10 straight games with over 200 yards passing since being held to 176 yards by Georgia last season. His previous low for passing yards as a starter was 154 set in last year's win over Florida in Oxford.
  • Rushed for a career-high 21 yards on seven carries, with a long of 13. His previous career high was 16 yards set in the 2001 game at Mississippi State.

SERIES NOTES

  • Tonight's game was the 50th all-time between Ole Miss and Arkansas dating back to 1908.
  • With tonight's 19-7 win by the Rebels, Ole Miss' records now reflect a 25-24-1 advantage for Arkansas. Arkansas' records show a 26-23-1 advantage for the Razorbacks. The dispute stems from a 1914 game that Ole Miss won 13-7, however, Arkansas claims a win by forfeit in that contest.
  • Tonight's game was the 12th meeting since Arkansas joined the SEC and the two teams have won six games each.
  • This was also the 23rd straight year the two schools have met since 1981 when the series resumed after a hiatus following the 1969 game. Ole Miss is 9-13-1 against the Razorbacks since the series resumed.

REBEL NOTEBOOK

  • Ole Miss is off to its first 4-0 start in the SEC since Archie Manning's senior season at quarterback in 1970.
  • Tonight's win was the Rebels' sixth of the year to make them bowl eligible for the seventh straight season.
  • Arkansas was the second ranked opponent Ole Miss has faced this season. The Rebels also defeated then No. 24 Florida 20-17 in Gainesville on October 4.
  • Ole Miss has won four straight since the 49-45 loss to Texas Tech on Sept. 27, the Rebels' longest win streak since winning five consecutive during the 2001 season.
  • Tonight's win was also Ole Miss' third straight versus SEC West opponents dating back to a 24-12 win over Mississippi State in last year's Egg Bowl to break a six-game losing skid against SEC West-foes.
  • Ole Miss closes out the month of October having won 10 of its last 12 games in the month dating back to the 2001 season. The Rebels are 15-4 under head coach David Cutcliffe during the month of October, including 8-4 against SEC teams.

KEY STAT

  • Ole Miss held Arkansas to 82 yards rushing on 32 carries, 143 yards below the Razorbacks' average of 225 yards rushing per game, which led the SEC entering tonight's game.

OFFENSIVE NOTES

  • Ole Miss scored on its opening possession for the sixth straight game as the Rebels marched 50 yards on six plays, capped by a one-yard TD pass from Eli Manning to Rick Razzano. For the season, the Rebels have scored on their opening possession in 6-of-8 games, scoring four TDs and kicking two field goals.
  • Senior WR Chris Collins caught three passes tonight to extend his streak to 30 straight games with at least one reception. It is the second longest known streak in school history behind Willie Green's (1986-1989) 37-game streak.
  • Junior WR Kerry Johnson has caught a pass in 12 consecutive games after recording two receptions in tonight's game.
  • Ole Miss' 15-play, 74-yard drive that took 6:53 and resulted in Jonathan Nichols' 20-yard field goal before halftime was the Rebels' longest this season in terms of plays and time of possession.
  • Ole Miss had nine different receivers catch at least one pass in tonight's game.
  • Tonight's 275 yards of total offense was a season-low and snapped the Rebels' string of six straight games with over 400 yards of total offense.

DEFENSIVE NOTES

  • Ole Miss has not allowed the opposition to score on its opening possession in 7-of-8 games this season, after holding Arkansas to three-and-out on the Razorbacks' first series tonight. Memphis is the only team score on its first offensive series against the Rebels this season, as the Tigers took advantage of a recovered fumble to go 26 yards in three plays for a touchdown.
  • Sophomore DE Jayme Mitchell recorded his first sack of the season in the first quarter to extend Ole Miss' streak to 24 straight games with a sack. The Rebels have also recorded at least one sack in 41 of the last 42 games.
  • The 155 yards passing by Arkansas tonight was the fewest allowed by the Ole Miss defense this season. The previous low was 181 yards by Arkansas State on Oct. 11.
  • The 13 completions by Arkansas was also the fewest allowed by the Rebels this year, one less than the 14 allowed against Florida on Oct. 4.
  • Ole Miss is now 22-1 under head coach David Cutcliffe when holding the opposition to less than 20 points.

SPECIAL TEAMS NOTES

  • Junior PK Jonathan Nichols broke his own school single-season scoring record by a kicker on a 20-yard field goal with 0:42 left in the first half. Nichols scored 13 points on the night to give him 97for the season and eclipsing his record of 85 set last season. He is now five points shy of the Ole Miss overall season scoring record of 102 set by former RB Deuce McAllister (1997-2000) in 2000.
  • Nichols made four field goals tonight to move into sole possession of second place on the Ole Miss career list for field goals with 40. He is now one shy of the school career mark of 41 currently held by Brian Lee (1989-1992).
  • Junior P Cody Ridgeway boomed a season-long 65-yard punt in the second quarter. His previous season-long punt was 64 yards against Memphis (9/6) and Alabama (10/18).
  • Ridgeway recorded a season-high 289 yards punting on six attempts tonight, three more than his previous high of 286 on seven attempts set at Memphis on Sept. 6.
