Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match At SEC West Leading Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Ole Miss volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (22-30, 24-30, 17-30) match to Arkansas Friday night at Barnhill Arena. The Lady Rebels (5-21, 3-8) will conclude their five-match road trip with a 1:30 p.m. match at LSU on Sunday.

Junior outside hitter Elena Garcia led the Lady Rebels with 10 kills and eight digs. With her 10 kills, she notched her 300th kill for the season. Also with her eight digs, Garcia now needs one more dig to record her 800th career dig. Freshman Kristen Carroll added eight kills and five digs. Sophomore Rachel Refenes finished with seven kills and three blocks. Freshman setter Jennifer McGowan led the team with 12 digs.

Ole Miss fell behind 10-3 early in game one and had to call timeout. Following the timeout, the Lady Rebels went on a 5-1 run to close to within three (11-8). Arkansas (18-4, 11-0) increased its lead to 19-10 with an 8-2 run. The Lady Rebels never got any closer as Arkansas won the game 30-22.

Game two was tied at four when Arkansas won four straight points to take an 8-4 lead. Ole Miss went on an 8-4 run to tie at 12. The two teams then went back and forth until the Lady Razorbacks held a 21-17 lead. Ole Miss got to within 21-19, and Arkansas head coach Chris Poole called timeout. Following the UA timeout, the Lady'Backs won three consecutive points to back up by five (24-19) as Ole Miss used its first timeout of the game. Arkansas never relinquished the lead, taking game two 30-24 and a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Lady Rebels, trying to stay in the match, played to a 7-7 tie. Arkansas then went on a 4-1 run to go up 11-8. From there, the Lady'Backs won six of the next nine points to extend their lead to six (17-11), forcing Ole Miss to call timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Rebels responded to close within 16-14. Arkansas pulled back out to a six-point lead (21-15) forcing Ole Miss to use its last timeout. The Lady'Backs pulled away, winning game three 30-18.

Arkansas' Denitra Koleva had 14 kills and hit .433 for the match to the Lady'Backs, while Jennifer Haaser chipped in 10 kills, eight blocks and hit .360.
