Lady Rebel Freshman Captures Title At SEC Fall Coaches Classic

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - Ole Miss women's tennis freshman Emily Ladyman didn't drop a set on her way to capturing the D Draw at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic this weekend, to win her first collegiate tournament.
Ladyman, a native of Memphis, Tenn., completed the fall with a 9-6 record. She began the season winning five of her first six matches. This marked the second tournament final appearance for Ladyman this fall, as she also reached the finals of the Ole Miss Fall Classic before losing to teammate Audra Adams.
"For Emily to win her first collegiate tournament is obviously very exciting for her and for us as a program," head coach Mark Beyers said. It's a good way to finish a pretty good fall for her in her freshman year. We had other players post some good wins, so overall we are pleased. We still have some things to work on, but I am pleased with how hard the team has worked this fall."
After a first-round bye, Ladyman downed Jenny Paul of Auburn 6-0, 6-3 in the second round. In the quarterfinals, Ladyman cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Evan Epps, also of Auburn. Her semifinal match pitted her against Alabama newcomer Sonya Nikolic. Ladyman won that one 6-3, 6-3 to set up a final against Kentucky freshman Caroline Winebrenner. Ladyman outlasted Weinbrenner 7-5, 7-6(4) to claim her first career title.
In other action, Sabrina Peppl defeated Auburn's Carolina Ramirez 6-3, 6-3 in the A Draw. In B singles, Florencia Basile downed Tennessee's Majen Immink 6-3, 6-2. Audra Adams won two matches in C singles, defeating Arkansas' Illiana Pacheco 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 and Fallon Koon from South Carolina 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
The Lady Rebels will open the spring Jan. 24 with a home match against Troy State.
