OXFORD, Miss. - Cory Tidwell of Flower Mound, Texas, and Lauren Moffett of Plano, Texas, have signed national letters of intent to join the Ole Miss volleyball program beginning with the 2004-05 academic year, head coach Joe Getzin announced Friday.
"This signing of Cory and Lauren brings a new level of athleticism and size that will help us take the next step in building our program to where we want it to be," Getzin said. "Both play for well-recognized clubs in the Dallas area. With their level of experience, we are looking forward to Cory and Lauren coming in and contributing in a positive way."
Tidwell, a 6-2 middle blocker, earned four letters in volleyball at Flower Mound High School under head coach Lisa Paulson. A three-year varsity starter, Tidwell earned second team All-District honors this year for the second year in a row. She was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Tidwell ranks as the all-time blocks leader at her high school and is third all-time in kills and ranks top five in digs and service aces. She played club volleyball for the Dallas Skyline Juniors Volleyball Club in 2001 and 2002. This year she is playing for the Texas Advantage Volleyball Club.
An excellent student-athlete, Tidwell received Academic All-District honors and was named to the Who's Who Among American High Schools.
Moffett, a 6-2 middle blocker from Plano High School, started three years at middle blocker. She earned Honorable Mention All-State honors this year and first team All-District accolades in 2002. Moffett has played club volleyball three years for the Dallas Summit, two years with the North Dallas Juniors and one year with the Dallas Skyline.
Off the court, Moffett is a member of the National Honor Society and the Student Congress. She received the Plano Independent School District Trustee Award of Excellence. Her sister Katy Moffett played volleyball at Southern Methodist University.
The Lady Rebels, who had eight newcomers on the 2003 squad, completed the season winning two of their last three, including season sweeps of Auburn and Mississippi State. The Lady Rebels are 4-0 against their arch-rival under Coach Getzin.
