IRVING, Texas - Under overcast skies and a few sprinkles of rain, the No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowboys continued their preparations for the 68th SBC Cotton Bowl Classic with a three-hour practice in Texas Stadium.
OSU head coach Les Miles called the practice "real physical" as the Cowboys ready to take on the No. 16 Ole Miss Rebels on Jan. 2 at 1:10 p.m. on FOX.
"Right now we are in game week," Miles said after practice. "We really had a short Tuesday practice today, hitting and a lot of real physical practice really. Tomorrow will be a physical practice as well and will be a longer go probably with the idea the next day will be a plus."
Miles said he was pleased with the productivity the team displayed in practice, their second since arriving in Dallas. The Cowboys conducted nine practices in Stillwater before taking a three-day break before reconvening in Dallas Friday.
"Today's practice is just what we needed," Miles said. "This was very much what we needed, very much like game week in Stillwater. They are focused on the task at hand, the things they have to do within the practices."
Oklahoma State is returning to the Cotton Bowl for the second time in school history. Its first trip was the school's first ever bowl appearance in 1945. Then known as Oklahoma A&M, the Cowboys shut out TCU 34-0 in the 9th Cotton Bowl Classic.
"We've tied for the most number of wins in the history of the school," Miles said. "We are playing in a New Year's Day bowl which was a goal for this football team. And we currently have the greatest winning percentage in bowl games. We'd like to keep that string going."
That string is an impressive 10-4 bowl record, including three wins in OSU's previous four bowl games. Miles said he understands the importance of this trip for the Cowboys to bolster their bowl resume.
"We're in better position. It's a more elevated spot (playing in the Cotton Bowl). There's more emphasis. It's important that we win."
