NEW ORLEANS - Bernadette Luse fired a three-round score of 75-77-76--228 and tied for eighth place overall to help lead the Lady Rebels to a fifth place finish at the Tulane Invitational with a team score of 311-309-311--922.

Ole Miss saw three players finish in the top-20 of the event as the Lady Rebels edged out conference rivals Mississippi State and Alabama behind the strong play of Luse, senior Kerrie Davis and freshman Laura Evans.

"It was a beautiful day for golf, and some of the nation's top teams came out and took advantage of that today," said head coach Meghan Bolger. "We played well as a team, and it came down to missing a few short puts. We played hard though, and edged out some highly ranked teams within our conference so that's always a plus."

Luse finished the first round in sole possession of eighth place and never gave ground, though she did finish tied in the final standings with her 75-77-76--228. Freshman Laura Evans responded to the challenge laid down by Luse, firing a 76-79-77--232 to finish the event tied for the No. 15 spot overall.

Senior Kerrie Davis played well on her home course, as the New Orleans native also came up strong for Ole Miss, turning in a score of 79-74-80--233 to finish the tournament in a tie for the No. 18 position.

Nikki Hadd, a sophomore on the squad, finished the event in control of the No. 24 spot overall after showing steady improvement each round. She carded an 81-79-77--237 for the tournament.

Sarah Kate Cousart, the other freshman on the squad, rounded out the scoring for the squad as the Athens, Ga., native turned in a score of 90-80-80--250 to end the event at the No. 38 spot in the standings.

Ole Miss will take a couple of weeks off before returning to the links at the Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The event, which is hosted by SEC rival Florida, will be played March 9-11, 2003.
