OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss softball team hosts six schools this Saturday and Sunday as part of the Rebel/Easton Invitational in Oxford. Joining the Rebels are Indiana State, Jacksonville State, Mississippi State, Nicholls State, Samford and UT-Martin.

After hosting numerous tournaments over the years, Ole Miss expanded the 2003 Rebel/Easton Invitational into the largest event the program has sponsored. The field has grown to represent five different athletic conferences, while the tournament now features two venues. In addition to Ole Miss Softball Complex, games will also be played simultaneously at Airport Field at the Oxford Softball and Soccer Complex.

Games begin at 9 a.m. each day at both fields, and all Rebel games will be played at their home stadium on campus. On Saturday, Ole Miss matches up with Indiana State at 11:15 a.m., Jacksonville State at 1:30 p.m. and UT-Martin at 6. The Rebels' Sunday slate has Nicholls State at 11:15 a.m. followed by Samford at 1:30 p.m.

"It's good to be home," said UM head coach Candi Letts. "We're looking forward to facing some very quality opponents from different regions. It's going to be a nice homestand before we hit the road again for four weeks."

Ole Miss enters the Invitational with a 3-3 mark on the young season after spending last weekend at the Triple Crown Classic in St. Augustine, Fla. Despite outstanding pitching by seniors Leslie Day and Lindsay Price, the Rebels posted a 1-3 mark with a victory over Bethune-Cookman (5-0) and close losses to Kansas (1-2 in 10 innings), UCF (4-5) and Southern Illinois (1-3).

"The most important thing is we found out where we need to improve," Letts said. "We got a chance to work on those areas in St. Augustine. We also saw where our strengths are, and I feel good about the direction we are going."

Ole Miss is the defending champion of the Rebel/Easton Invitational, posting a 3-1 mark a year ago with wins over UT-Martin, Evansville and Nicholls State. Current UM junior Andrea Brahs batted .556 (5-for-9) with six RBI to nab tournament MVP honors.
