Softball Falls in Pitching Duel to No. 16 Mississippi State
4/30/2026 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball program dropped a narrow, 1-0, decision to No. 16 Mississippi State on Thursday night at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
The Rebels (30-23, 4-18 SEC) were led by a gem from Emilee Boyer in the circle, who went a complete seven innings, allowing one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out seven. However, the Rebels were unable to solve the Bulldogs (37-15, 9-13 SEC) starter Alyssa Faircloth, who tossed a complete game shutout to lead Mississippi State.
Despite five strikeouts through two frames for Boyer, the Bulldogs managed to hit a solo home run in the second inning that kept the team ahead for good.
While a Persy Llamas floater almost fell in during the first inning, the offense struggled to solve Faircloth, who opened with 4.1 hitless innings. However, a Cassie Reasner infield single broke up the no-hit bid. Despite that, Faircloth responded with back-to-back strikeouts to stop the rally.
Boyer kept the Rebels in the game, securing a quick sixth inning. Kennedy Bunker was able to generate a hit-by-pitch in the bottom half of the frame, but once again, the Bulldogs stifled the rally.
Ultimately, Mississippi State was able to secure the win, despite a valiant at-bat from Reasner to end the game.
The Rebels are back in action for game two on Friday, hosting the Bulldogs for a 6 p.m. CT game. The game will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
