Rebel Bats Bust Out In Sunday's Win

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss scored five runs in the fourth inning to break open a 3-2 game en route to a 15-4 victory and a sweep of the weekend's three-game series against Western Michigan Sunday afternoon at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
Back-to-back errors by Western Michigan (0-3) shortstop Adam Rosales to open the fourth inning opened the door to four unearned runs in the frame. Following the two errors, center fielder Matt Mossberg singled to load the bases and Jonathan Swearingen delivered an RBI single to make it 4-2. Chad Sterbens then followed with a two-run double down the right field line to put the Rebels up 6-2.
Ole Miss (6-3) out-hit Western Michigan 15-8 on the afternoon as nine different Rebels recorded at least one hit. Swearingen went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Sterbens was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Senior Bryce Morrison hit his first home run of the year with a three-run pinch-hit homer to cap a six-run seventh and make it 15-4.
Tom Fabrizio was 2-for-2 with three RBIs to lead the Broncos.
Senior right-hander T.J. Beam (1-0) went six innings to earn his first win of the season, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and no walks, while striking out a season-high seven.
J.R. Mathes (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs, four earned, on seven hits and two walks. He also struck out two.
Ole Miss will return to action Tuesday night when the Rebels host the McNeese State Cowboys in the first of a two-game midweek series. Game time is 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
