Softball Drops Doubleheader with Auburn

OXFORD, Miss. - Strong Auburn pitching stifled Ole Miss all day as the Rebels suffered a doubleheader sweep Saturday, 3-0 and 2-0. Ole Miss (12-17, 3-5 SEC) looks to salvage the finale of the three-game SEC series Sunday at 1 p.m. CST at Ole Miss Softball Complex.
In the early game, Rebel senior Lindsay Price (7-7) notched her 11th straight complete game and allowed only five hits, but it would be in a losing cause. Auburn (16-18, 5-6 SEC) posted three runs in the third inning and would hold off Ole Miss the rest of the way for the 3-0 victory.
Ashley Griffin supplied the bulk of the AU offense, batting 2-for-3 and doubling home the first two runs of the game-winning rally. She totaled four doubles in the twin bill.
Righthander Kristin Keyes (2-9) held the Rebels to four hits with 12 strikeouts.
In game two, Janet Spivey picked up where Keyes left off on the Tiger mound. Spivey (7-7) surrendered two hits - a pair of Rebecca McIntire singles - and one walk in the 2-0 shutout.
McIntire, a freshman third baseman from Chatsworth, Calif., turned in a 3-for-6 doubleheader and wrecked no-hitters in each game.
Fellow Ole Miss freshman Dana Brill recorded her fifth complete game and took a shutout into the sixth inning. However Tiger pinch-hitter Paige Jones homered on the first pitch of the sixth, and Kasey Angulo later doubled in an insurance run.
Brill (1-6) finished with only five hits allowed in the loss.
