MARTIN, Tenn. - Ole Miss ripped three home runs on the day in sweeping a doubleheader at UT-Martin Wednesday. The Rebels (14-18) took game one, 7-1, and game two, 2-1, in the non-conference twin bill.
DeDe Justice opened the Ole Miss barrage in the early game, planting the first pitch she saw of the day over the left field fence for a 2-0 first-inning lead. The sophomore from Vero Beach, Fla., batted 2-for-4 with her sixth homer.
The third inning was Andrea Brahs' turn, as the junior first baseman blasted the first grand slam of her career. She finished 3-for-4 and was a double short of hitting for the cycle.
Brooke Turner also tallied 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Jordan Chitwood drove in a run with a second-inning sacrifice fly.
Senior righthander Leslie Day improved to 5-4 on the season with the four-hit complete game - her fifth of the year. UTM hurler Kendra Kosco (5-5) was touched for 10 hits over the full seven innings.
Fellow senior Lindsay Price (8-8) continued the strong Rebel pitching in the late game, limiting the Skyhawks to four hits with eight strikeouts in the one-run victory. She also registered her 13th straight complete game.
UT-Martin (10-10) jumped out to an early lead on Price as opposing pitcher Nicole Davis connected on a second-inning solo homer. Rebel shortstop Desiree Layman would answer Davis' round-tripper with a solo shot of her own in the third. It was Layman's second home run of the year.
The game would remain knotted at 1-1 until the top of the seventh when Brahs chased home the go-ahead run with a bunt-single. She finished the doubleheader with five RBI.
Davis (3-3) allowed four hits and two runs in the complete game loss. The UTM senior also batted 2-for-3.
Ole Miss continues its eight-game road swing this weekend with a three-game SEC series at Florida. The Rebels and Gators play a Saturday doubleheader and a Sunday finale, both scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. Ole Miss is 3-6 in league play.
