PLANT CITY, Fla. - With a 3-0 victory over UIC, the Ole Miss softball team advanced to the final of the Speedline Invitational consolation bracket Sunday, where the Rebels fell to Illinois, 4-0.

The split with the two Illinois schools gives Ole Miss an 8-11 mark on the season, as the team enters Southeastern Conference play this week.

The morning game with UIC (4-16) saw Lindsay Price turn in the finest outing of her four-year Rebel career. The senior righthander from Terry, Miss., tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out nine batters with only one walk.

It was the second shutout of the tournament for Price, who wins her fourth straight start to improve to 5-4 and match her season-high for victories. Flame hurler Alison Aguilar lasted only 1.2 innings in defeat.

She was chased away by a three-run Ole Miss rally in the second inning, when six straight Rebels reached base. Britte Hardy singled in the first run, and with the bases loaded, two more came across when Jenny Cox was hit by a pitch and DeDe Justice drew a walk.

The victory propelled the Rebels into the consolation bracket final with the Illini (12-4). The matchup began as a pitcher's duel between Ole Miss' Dana Brill and Illinois' Jackelyn Diekemper.

Through the first eight innings, the Illini could muster only one run, off a third-inning Rachel Coriddi RBI-single. UI finally got to Brill in the seventh, plating three insurance runs keyed by an Erin Montgomery homer.

The Rebels managed only five hits off Diekemper, who exited in the sixth inning in favor of Amanda Fortune for the combined shutout. Brill (0-5) suffered her fourth straight complete-game loss for Ole Miss, who went 3-4 for the tournament.

Rebecca McIntire batted 2-for-2 to lead the Rebels at the plate and wrap up her outstanding tourney play. The freshman from Chatsworth, Calif., hit .409 (9-for-22) with five RBI in the seven Speedline contests. Justice also drove in five runs while posting a .444 average (8-for-18).

Ole Miss' 12-day, 13-game road trip next rolls into Fayetteville, Ark., for a three-game set with the Lady Razorbacks. The Rebels open SEC play Wednesday with a 5 p.m. CST doubleheader at Lady 'Back Yard. The series final is Thursday at 5.
