Lady Rebel Basketball Announces Signing Of Amber Terrell

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss women's basketball Head Coach Carol Ross announced the signing of Amber Terrell Thursday. Terrell signed a national letter of intent to join the Ole Miss women's basketball program beginning in the 2003-04 academic year. Terrell chose the Lady Rebels over Mississippi State.
"We are extremely excited to sign a player the caliber of Amber," said Ross. "She will fill a position we are much in need of in the post. She played for a terrific coach in Larry Slater at Wallace State and comes to Ole Miss well prepared to play in the Southeastern Conference.
"One of the most positive aspects about Amber is that her best basketball is in front of her. She has the passion and hunger to work hard and become the best player on the court."
Terrell, a 6-4 center, is coming to Ole Miss from Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, Ala., where she led the Lady Lions to a 21-7 record and the Alabama Junior and Community College Conference title her sophomore season. While at Wallace State, Terrell averaged 17.3 points and 10.2 rebounds in just 22.7 minutes per game as a sophomore. She was named the AJCCC Player of the Year. Terrell also earned MVP honors at the AJCCC Tournament and was named a third team NJCAA All-American this past season.
"Ole Miss is getting a tremendous player in Amber Terrell," said Slater. "She is a good shooter, she has a great touch on the ball. She has worked hard and improved a lot in my two years as her coach and will do the same in Oxford."
Prior to attending Wallace State, Terrell attended Winfield High School in her hometown of Winfield, Ala., earning All-State honors as a senior.
Terrell is the fifth Ole Miss signee of the 2003-04 class. Ashley Awkward, Jada Mincy, Armintie Price and Courtney Ratliffe signed with the Lady Rebels in the fall signing period.
