Carter And Andrews Lead UM At The Ole Miss Open

Octavia Carter and Stacy Andrews both captured two individual titles to lead UM at the Ole Miss Open on Saturday. Carter claimed victories in both hurdle races for the Lady Rebels, while Andrews won both the discus and the hammer throw for the Rebels.
Carter, a sophomore, won the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.85 and also won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.95. Carter has qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional meet in the 100-meter hurdles.
"I felt really good getting out of the blocks," said Carter. "I knew going into the race that I had the second best time, so I really wanted to go out and run a good race and finish on top. My race felt really good and I am just hoping to continue to improve."
Sophomore Kesia Bass added her name to the list of regional qualifiers for the Lady Rebels as she took first place in the high jump with her mark of 5-7. Bass also won the long jump with her mark of 18-4.25. Sophomore Camilia Pittman won the 200 meters with a regional qualifying time of 23.96.
Freshman Rachel Ellison placed second in the 800 meters with her time of 2:12.69. Senior Monique McClure placed second in the javelin (129-10) and fourth in the shot put (41-8.75). Freshman Kristi Stillwell placed second in the hammer throw with her mark of 149-4, while teammates senior Amanda Harvey finished third (144-1) and freshman Robyn Gaunder placed (128-1). The Lady Rebel 4x100-meter relay team composed of sophomore Marquita Aldridge, sophomore Chiquita Stephens, Pittman and senior Willisa Heintz took home first place with a regional qualifying mark of 45.93. The Lady Rebel 4x400-meter relay team of Ellison, Pittman, Aldridge and Bass placed second with a time of3:53.07.
Andrews, a senior, won the discus with a toss of 169-8 and the hammer throw with a mark of 190-9. Andrews has already qualified for the regional meet in both events.
"I really wanted to have a good meet with this being my last home meet," said Andrews. "My marks weren't my best ever, but I still won, so I was happy with that."
Junior Kendrick Triggs better his time in the 200 meters with his winning time of 20.57. Triggs' time in the 200 is the second best time in the NCAA this season.
Sophomore Antwon Hicks continued his assault on the hurdles as he won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 13.70. Sophomore Chris Lawson finished second in the 100 meters with a regional qualifying time of 10.48. Lawson also finished second in the 200 meters with a regional qualifying time of 21.07.
Fellow sophomores Shantel Glass and Brandon Atkinson dominated the jumps as Glass took home the title in the long jump (25-4.25) and Atkinson won the triple jump (51-2.25). The Rebel 4x400-meter relay team composed of junior Clinton Fletcher, Triggs, Lawson and Bernard took home the title with a regional qualifying time of 3:10.07.
