SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Ole Miss sophomore Shantel Glass competed in the finals of the men's long jump at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Championships late Friday night. Glass, a native of Aberdeen, Miss., finished in 12th-place with his mark of 23-8.75, narrowly missing out on All-America honors.
"Shantel did not have one of his better performances today," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker. "Still, to be one of the top 12 long jumpers in the NCAA says a lot about his talent."
Sophomore Antisha Anderson, of Little Rock, Ark., was sitting in 13th place in the women's heptathlon after the first day of events. Anderson had a first-day total of 3,129 after competing in the shot put (35-10.75), high jump (5-5), 100-meter hurdles (14.48) and 200 meters (25.62).
"Antisha had a very strong first day," said Walker. "She has been hurt for much of the last part of the season. She is finally feeling better and it is showing in her performance, thus far."
Anderson will complete the remainder of the heptathlon on Saturday. She will compete in the long jump, javelin and 800 meters. Also competing on Saturday will be Ole Miss senior Stacy Andrews. Andrews will compete in the discus finals.
