OXFORD, Miss. - Infielder Chris Coghlan, of Palm Harbor, Fla., has signed a national letter of intent to play baseball at Ole Miss, head coach Mike Bianco announced Thursday.

Coghlan, a product of East Lake High School, was the Pinellas County Player of the Year and a first team 5A All-State selection last spring. He batted .573 in setting a school single-season record with 51 hits. In addition, Coghlan set school season marks for runs scored (47), doubles (16), triples (6), and slugging percentage (.955).

Coghlan recorded a hit in 25-of-26 games, and in the game that he did not record a hit, he was hit by a pitch twice and walked three times. He also struck out just once in 89 at-bats.

"We're very excited that Chris has decided to sign with us," Bianco said. "Pinellas County is one of the best, if not the best, baseball-county in the state of Florida. To put up the type of offensive numbers that he's been able to over the last couple of years is remarkable."

The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Coghlan during the 19th round of this year's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Ole Miss went 35-27 this past season and earned a berth in the NCAA Houston Regional.
