Smith Has Hit Streak Snapped At Seven

STRONGSVILLE, Ohio - Ole Miss sophomore outfielder Seth Smith went 0-for-5 in Team USA's 8-2 win over Northern Ohio Thursday evening, snapping his seven-game hit streak.

With the win, the USA National Team improved to 18-0 on its 22-game summer tour in preparation for the Pan American Games, to be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The baseball competition begins on Saturday, August 2.

Smith has now appeared in 16 games, making 13 starts, and his hitting .306 with two home runs and five RBIs on the tour.

USC freshman catcher Jeff Clement and Arizona State sophomore first baseman Jeff Larish each hit their third home run of the summer, and VCU sophomore right-hander Justin Orenduff worked 7 2/3 innings to pick up his fourth win on the tour.

Team USA and Northern Ohio, a member of the Great Lakes Collegiate Baseball League, will continue their four-game series Friday evening at 6 p.m., (CDT). Old Dominion sophomore right-hander Justin Verlander (4-0, 0.33 ERA) is scheduled to start for Team USA.
