CROSS COUNTRY MEN, WOMEN FINISH 3RD AT USM INVITATIONAL

Hattiesburg, Miss. - Sophomore Rachel Ellison captured second place in the women's 5k to lead Ole Miss to a third place finish at the 24th annual USM Invitational. The men, led by sophomore Jimmy Lohmar, also captured third in the four mile run at Van Hook Golf Course in Hattiesburg.
With a time of 19:04.72, Ellison finished just behind Tulane's Bessie Hatch (18:41.39), who led the Green Wave to their second straight USM Invitational victory. Ellison was joined in the top 20 by teammate Mallory Hamsher, who placed 17th with a time of 20:28.01.
In the men's four mile run, Jimmy Lohmar led all Rebel runners with a time of 22:20.17, earning him 20th. Following him at 21st was Justin Jernigan with a time of 22:27.46. Placing first among all collegiate runners was Samson Kipchrchir of South Alabama, completing the race in 20:49.00.
Following Lohmar and Jernigan, the Rebels' top five runners consisted of Matthew Merritt (22:47.83), Bryce McKay (22:58.98) and Fred Cummings (23:17.72). Rounding out the top five runners for the women were Beth Brorby (21:11.22), Erin Jordan (21:17.01) and Stephanie Barber (21:28.00).
The Tulane men placed three runners in the top 10 en route to defending their title from a year ago with a team score of 34. They were followed by Southeastern Louisiana (78) and Ole Miss (101). The Lady Rebels' score of 112 was bested by Tulane (36) and Southern Mississippi (52).
