OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss baseball opened fall workouts with 38 players reporting for Tuesday afternoon's practice at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
With 17 new players out for the first day of fall drills, the Rebels spent most of the practice working on basic fundamentals and covering terminology used by the Ole Miss coaching staff. Fourth-year head coach Mike Bianco was pleased with what he saw out of his new players.
"It was exciting to get back on the field," Bianco said. "We were real happy with how our new players did today. We did a lot of work on fundamentals and teaching the terminology that we use in our system. There is a lot to cover, but we we're excited to get back out here to work."
Ole Miss will hold fall practice through October 12.
The Rebels finished 35-27 last season and earned a berth in the NCAA Regionals. The regional bid was Ole Miss' second in three years under Bianco.
Ole Miss is scheduled to open the 2004 season at home on February 20 against Birmingham Southern.
