OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. Friday, Sept. 19, to compete in the Crimson Classic Cross Country Invitational at Harry Pritchard Golf Course. The women's 5K begins running at 5:00 p.m., followed by the men's 8K at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Rebels will be led by sophomore Rachel Ellison, who captured 2nd place at last week's USM Invitational with a 5K time of 19:04.72. Sophomore Jimmy Lohmar led all Rebel runners in Hattiesburg with his four-mile time of 22:20.17.
"We're expecting a really good effort," said Ole Miss Assistant Coach Doug Blackwell. "This is our first really big test of the year in what is a fairly strong meet, so it should be interesting to see how we compete."
The Crimson Classic, held each year just off the campus of the University of Alabama, is in its 16th running and will feature 18 men's and 15 women's collegiate teams from throughout the southeast. Among those squads are Alabama, Alabama A&M, Alabama-Huntsville, Alabama State, Arkansas State, Birmingham Southern, Clayton College, Jacksonville State, Huntingdon College, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, North Alabama, Northwest Shoals C.C., Samford, Southern Illinois, Southern Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama-Birmingham and West Alabama, in addition to Ole Miss.
